The UIDAI is a statutory authority established under the Aadhaar Act 2016, under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). Its mission is to issue Aadhaar numbers, ensuring robust, verifiable, and cost-effective identification for all Indian residents. With over 131.68 crore Aadhaar numbers issued, UIDAI manages the entire lifecycle of Aadhaar, ensuring secure authentication and safeguarding identity information.

PurposeAn internship is an opportunity for a student to secure first-hand and practical work experience under the guidance of a qualified and experienced Mentor. Interns will gain exposure to various technology tracks and other units within UIDAI Headquarters, Technology Centre, and Regional offices.
About UIDAIThe Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is a statutory authority established under the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits, and Services) Act, 2016. UIDAI was created to issue Unique Identification numbers (UID), named “Aadhaar”.
Objective
  • To allow young academic talent to be associated with UIDAI’s work for mutual benefit.
  • Provide interns with an opportunity to understand UIDAI’s functioning, while contributing ideas and support in fields like technology, management, and legal aspects.
Eligibility

Who can apply:

  • Only Indian Citizens are eligible to apply.
  • B.Tech/BE students in the 3rd/4th year with 60% marks or more.
  • Graduate students who have completed/appeared in term-end exams of their post-graduate program or pursuing research/PhD.
  • For students waiting for admission for higher studies, the period between the declaration of result and the internship should not exceed six months.

Period:

The period of internship shall be at least six weeks but not exceeding 12 months. Interns not completing the requisite period will not be issued a certificate.

Stipend

The stipend per month will be paid based on the type of internship and work location. Below is the stipend structure:

How to Apply
  • Apply online through the UIDAI website when applications are open.
  • The application must be sponsored by the institution where the applicant is currently enrolled.
  • Candidates applying for a 1-year internship should apply within 6 months of their final exam result declaration.
Selection
  • The selection of the interns will be based on recommendations from the Selection Committee.
  • Personal or virtual interviews may be conducted if necessary. No TA/DA will be provided.
  • The decision of the DDG heading the respective office regarding the suitability of a candidate will be final.

Who Can Apply?

The internship is open to Indian citizens who meet the following eligibility criteria:

  1. Undergraduates:
    • Final or pre-final year students (3rd or 4th year) in B.Tech/BE courses with at least 60% marks in prior semesters.
  2. Postgraduates and PhD Candidates:
    • Graduate students having completed or appeared for first-year postgraduate exams with 60% marks.
    • PhD students in relevant fields like computer science, public policy, or management.
  3. Recent Graduates:
    • Candidates who have completed graduation/post-graduation and are waiting for higher studies or job placements (within six months of final exam results).

Internship Duration

Internships are available for a minimum of six weeks and can extend up to 12 months, depending on the nature of the project and the intern’s engagement.

Stipend

Interns will receive a monthly stipend based on their educational background and mode of engagement:

  • B.Tech Students: ₹30,000 (onsite), ₹15,000 (remote)
  • M.Tech Students: ₹40,000 (onsite), ₹20,000 (remote)
  • PhD Candidates: ₹50,000 (onsite), ₹25,000 (remote)
    The stipend is subject to satisfactory performance as assessed by the assigned project supervisor.

Eligible candidates can apply online through the UIDAI website or by submitting applications to respective regional offices. The process includes:

  1. Submission of application forms, recommendation letters, and academic records.
  2. Screening and personal or virtual interviews.

Responsibilities of Interns

During the internship, interns will:

Certificate of Completion
